Well, I always use the "Ghostcrawler's ABC":

A person with equal gear, buffs and skill,
B eing a Hybrid class
C an expect to be 5% below "pure DPS classes"

This is a bit of the way it was explained before. So, since we cannot control gear (others get gear, you get gear, everything fluctuates) or buffs (we can ask, but raidleaders decide), all we can really do is be damn skillful.

So here's my ABC:

A ssuming I work my ass off
B eing as skilled as I can be, I will
C are nothing for your DPS and smoke you...

^_^

@Merlot - cheers :)
@Nat - There are other classes which can help but given that us shadow priests are not supposed to be out dpsing the other classes, and it allows healers to concentrate more on healing on Hodir and Yogg which is why I take great pleasure in kicking other classes butts on dps meatures when I can - just to show that just because our dps scaling is bad - it doesnt mean we can't perform.
@rapid - there is lots of variety, and for my complaints about ghopher hitting it does make it a little different - hope your able to explore shadow in Ulduar

I think I'm going to go shadow for Ulduar, healing it is so mind numbingly boring it’s unbelievable, and your encounter sounds a lot like… dare I say it… fun

I know what it's like. I recently joined a new community, and have been doing Naxx-10 at most and suddenly am catapulted into Ulduar-25. Gear sucks, have to adjust to a new raid group/tactics/style, and learn the encounters.

Needless to say, I have a hard enough time not to die from stupid stuff and my DPS is lagging behind.

In the end, once you learn the encounters and they become easier for you, these situations become less and less frequent, giving you time to enjoy the scenery and/or increase your DPS.

As for Yoggy, surely you don't shoulder the burden on dispelling alone? There must be paladins/druids/shamans/etc. there that assist in this?

I am now getting in the habit of doing all of that as well, and so far it's going quite well. Dispelling is not all that bad if you have it in a /mouseover macro and combine it with a good set of raidframes. The mana issue depends purely on how much of the dispelling you (have to) do compared to the others.

Even so, we are struggling on Yogg as well (fingers crossed for this week's go at it) and I empathise with your pain. ^_^
