Ethical Treatment of Shadowfiends

fiend

I often take my little friend fiend for granted.  He never stays round for long,  pops up,  gives me mana, and then leaves me again.

There is never enough time to ask him if he is hungry or cold ( who knows what the weather in Northrend does to his poor skin and yes I am sure it’s a him.) I don’t know what he eats or drinks, or if he has a family.

Where do they come from?

Physically, they are the result of a spell we cast, but he has to come from somewhere.    Is it a summoning from an alternate dimension,  am I dragging him away from his favourite Tv show just so I can get him to smack a boss?

I wonder how he feels that I am using him as often as possible now, not just for mana, but for extra dps where practical

I propose the following as Guildlines for  ethically handling your Shadow Fiend

1. Be considerate when bringing your fiend out. Ask yourself Is it really necessary. Will you get enough use out of the fiend in that fight to justify it’s his use.

2. Avoid bringing the Shadowfiend out for demonstration or picture-taking opportunities. Flash lights hurt their eyes, and it’s cruel to treat them like circus animals

3. Thank your fiend, or cheer at it , at the very least wave – It has feelings too, by doing that you are recognising it’s importance and that you appreciate his efforts.

4. Name your fiend.  Giving him a name gives him an identity and will strengthen your relationship.  Refer to your fiend by its name when ever discussing him.  Eg ” Wow,  did you see how much damage Ralph did”    When questioned who Ralph is, explain that Ralph (or what ever name you call your fiend is his name.) and you would appreciate it if your raid members and guild members could extend him the same courtesy

5. Look after his care and welfare.  You are sending  him into dangerous circumstances and his health is important.  Shield him if you are able to protect him.

6.  Love your fiend.  NO – Not LOVE your fiend.   Love your fiend because they are your friend.   He chose you – when you summoned him from the depths of wherever he came from.   He came to you.   Feel privileged and honoured that he comes each time you call,  no matter the day or the time, or that maybe he really wanted to spend time with his family or go out, or be in the middle of eating dinner ect.

* Disclaimer - I have not named my fiend.  Thought if I could I would probably name it something distinguished and strong!  like Caddaric ( battle leader)  or Bhaltair  ( strong fighter)

Aww… you’ve made me realise how I’ve been neglecting my lil fiend lately. I shall summon him at the first opportunity and give him hugs for the hard work he does, being on call at all hours.

    Hooray for manafiends!

Note the wording of the spell:

Creates a shadowy fiend to attack the target…”

The fiend is not summoned from another dimension, and does not return to its homeworld when 15 seconds expire. Its existence begins when you cast the spell and ends a few moments later. To the fiend, you’re not a friend whom he helps out in an hour of need: you’re the all-powerful Creator whom its owes its life to.

And if 15 seconds feels awfully brief to you… imagine how the Titans feel about us.

I’m torn on PW:B placement. I do geallnrey find targeting circles annoying and cumbersome. But I also like to be able to place Barrier exactly where I want it. It would be really cool if it moved with the person you cast it on, so you could cast it on yourself to position it, but it wouln’t become useless if the raid needed to move.

At one point a long time ago I starting thinking of my Shadowfiend as “Slappy”. It’s just something about how he gets around that earnt him that name.

Does it cheapen the relationship to include a /hug right there into a macro? Does it have to be spontaneous affection?

My shadowfiend shall be known as Bob.

I find it best to summon “Cuchulain” during an infusion of heroism. I think he appreciates feeling heroic along with everyone else — it must add a dose of relevance to his otherwise dreary existence in the otherworld.

Ouch Andie,It seems I really hit a nerve. Are YOU that sceard?I never once said that professionals couldn’t work with FCPX. I just said they wouldn’t want to in it’s current incarnation. That’s just a fact. I also expressed my hope that Apple would take some of the initial feedback on the software and incorporate it into future releases. As an editor of over 20 years and having been a consultant on editing products from Radius, Adobe, Avid and Final Cut Pro BEFORE it was at Apple, I feel fairly confident in my opinion of the product and its suitability for the majority of professional editors. Even Apple has (at least partially) seen the error of their ways and made FC7 available for purchase again.Your lack of knowledge of what’s required to accomplished the craft of editing as practiced by the readers of the Motion Picture Editors Guild Magazine, this website and other professional film and media makers worldwide is laughable at best and pathetic at worst. I wouldn’t have minded if you had refuted the article with some valid, salient points, but you didn’t have anything even close to constructive to say. As such, you resorted primarily to personal attacks, which when puked on any Internet forum, reek of being nothing more than a rant from some insecure shmuck.Good luck with your editing career.
