As reported by Xbox Live IGN in the article “Would you pay a girl to play Halo with you?” ( SAFE) by Daemon Hatfield Theres a new game service launching called Gamecrush (Maybe NSFW) where Players ( boys) can sign up and for a fee play with Playdates ( girls). The girls keep %60 of any money they earn, .
“For $8.25 ( US) you get 500 credits, which is enough for one game (400 credits) and a 100 credit tip at the end. An Xbox Live game will last 10 minutes, while a casual Flash game will get you six minutes of face time with your PlayDate.”
So working on if your popular – and can get 5 10 min sessions in an hour ( allowing for time for waiting/admin) that’s $24.75 US an hour. ( plus tips). I could think of worse ways of making money, and realistically most adult phone operators wouldn’t make much more than that. ( I hear its commission based with however many minutes you can keep them on the line for) If you did that 6/7 days a week you could make a nice little sum out of gaming 8 hours a day. From a tax point that would then mean any console costs/game costs /subscriptions would be tax deductible. ( Try and explain that to the tax man though.. ) There are already 1200 girls already signed up as playdates – will there be enough players to make it worthwhile? Enough male gamers who want this service?
“GameCrush says it modeled its pricing structure after the cost of buying a girl a drink at a bar.”
How how many ‘drinks’ do you want to pay for? And do you really want to buy a drink for a girl whose job it is to accept ‘drinks’ off as many men as possible. I mean the idea of buying a girl a drink in a bar is the opportunity to have a chat – get to know her – and in this day and age – if she likes you – buys you a drink – you keep talking ect. Exchange numbers and so on, but this isn’t an introductory service, you are paying for ‘pleasure’ They were talking about bringing WOW as a game you can play into it. Imagine your healer on a hard mode saying on vent ” Just one sec guys I need to change my WebCam Angle” or Opps.. I can’t heal one handed.. “
Buying a girls time in Gamecrush is no guarantee that you will get anything other than her company, and maybe that will be what some ‘players’ want – a friendly female voice to talk to. What she is willing to do/say is entirely up to her. I guess her popularity will also be determined by that as well and her repeat ‘customers’.
You may have already heard of Camgirls/GamerGirls - another girls while gaming service. Not offering any links other than an interview with one Where Eddie Carrington of the Hunting lodge asked 20 Questions – Confessions of a CamGirl Gamergirl ( NSFW if your sensitive about the Adult industry) Getting paid/tipped to be watched while you play a game in states of undress/activity is something else that is available.
Selling one self is touted as ‘the oldest profession in the book” I guess it seems almost natural & sad at the same time with the increase in female participation in gaming that with it comes opportunities and the market for services such as Gamecrush and Camgirls. I’m sure it’s not what everyone had in mind when trying to encourage female participation in the gaming market though. From a female liberation point - your body – your voice – your cam – do what you want. That you can get paid for gaming by using your own resources – well its a choice. I mean arguably we ‘sell’ ourselves to prospective partners to varying degrees anyway. However the moment you put a price on your time, your company, your affections – it all changes – it becomes a transaction and not something do you because you really do want to spend time with someone.
It would change the reasons why I game – and it’s not to meet new partners/cyber in vent – my gender is not supposed to matter in gaming.I support the girls choices to do what they want – but I will be a little judgemental because it’s not something I would do. I game because I want to play not because I can make a buck flashing my boobs to some stranger on the internet, and besides your never as anonymous as you think you are.
I also feel that these services may do harm to the female image in gaming.- and while the age of the average gamer is very much an adult, and they have adult needs and wants, girls still struggle at being taken seriously as gamers, and are already blamed for more ‘drama’ then we can take credit for, and this may make it just that little bit harder when the sex industry has infiltrated the gaming industry.
But I wonder – do guys want this sort of crossover? Does it destroy something sacred in gaming, or enhance your experience?
Also lastly would there be a market for women watching men without shirts in Calvin Klein briefs laying on a bed playing Play Station or X box?Though personally I can’t find the idea of a man in an apron sexy - nor a man with a game console in his hand /headset on his head doesn’t do it for me either..
