The Oculus Conspiracy

So frequent are my trips to this instance  – I now have had three Reins of the Blue Drake drop  including from the single LFG I did before logging off last night , of course I can’t prove it because I never SS the ” received item” and the party going ohh Grats!”  and then their disappointment when I say I already have it, and then their continued disapointment when I can’t trade it to them.

So you will have to take my word for it

So not only is this so called RNG for what intances you get –   torturing me with Oculus – they are taunting me with a drake I already have,   and would have been better off going to anyone else in the party but me.

My Stats say I’ve killed Ley-Guardian Eregos 37 times –  this  doesn’t include a period of me going  – Uh uh..    /screams in terror and then promptly leaving party – and thus avoiding Occulus,  or my kill count would have been at least 5 higher.

Aparently I have killed the The Prophet Tharon’ja kills (Heroic Drak’Tharon Keep) 97 times  ( really?) I’ve a few 5 man dungeon bosses at the 40 odd kills but then some at 15 & 17 so it’s still not an even distribution of dungeons –  not by a long shot, and considering I had avoided Heroic Oculus untill 08/08/09  yes..  that is an 09. (Heroic Gundrak was done 19/12/08 )- Blizz may be retroactively punishing me for not touching Oculus for almost 8 odd months.

I’m not the only one to notice the frequency that Oculus pops as the random – when LFG’s came out in  3.3 there were cries about it – to the extent that they had to put a pretty blue drake in, as well as a extra loot bag to get people to stay.

Infact a blue reply on a  post explains that the frequency of Oculus popping could be caused by the frequency that people are refusing to d0 it, and dropping group

So great is this Hate – there is even an add on called NoRandomOculus  that extends your raid ID for that instance so your less likely to get it  –  I have not tested this – but I will – it hasn’t been updated in a while so there may be issues,  but I will you know how it goes.

I will admit though –  running Oculus is getting easier – and not just because of the nerfs.  I suspect that other people are getting it a lot more frequent then normal and so then are getting better skilled at it.  So it’s less painful.

People know what drake to pick for their party role ( unless they call dibs on one) they know to move when he goes into a planar shift.  Usually someone picks up that not all the amber drakes should be  channeling temporal rifts,  and at least one person starts hitting it with the Shocklance,  and the green drake riders know now to get your 3 stacks of leeching poison up  up before you try and heal someone with dream funnel – or you shall be healing them to your death.

I tend to put off things I haven’t ran for as long as possible. Occulus was one of them… my first occulus run was two weeks ago. I hit 80 a year before that. Same for ToC, I didn’t begin raiding it until I was at par/overgeared the place. I don’t mind Occ. In fact, there are about 4 or so instances I despise more. Do people avoid it due to the mechanics? I just don’t understand. Even after Blizz puts a cherry and some whipcream on your reward, people still leave the party. Oh, and I’ve had 2 Occ queues in 2 weeks, an average of 2 queues a day… you might call me lucky. :]

    I’ve had 3 as well.

It’s annoying as hell – gimme the gems damn it!

I’ve heard of a bug with that dungeon, where you would often get credit for three kills of the final boss, instead of just one. This makes the “kill count” shown on the armory mostly worthless.

Yes that would explain it – or I am sure I would have noticed getting that every second time, and yeah if that’s bugged what else is? ( i swear I’ve done oculus more then what it says I have.. )

When my Warlock was farming LFD (while working on Loremaster) he would get Oculus first every single day. He got the drake twice in that time.

Thing is, none of my other characters seem to get the same place over and over again. Which is frustrating, because my most over-geared character is also my collector – and I want that Blue Drake. Since he never gets Oculus, he doesn’t have the mount. 😦

Side note: I got the Blue Drake on my Warrior, and two days after that he got the Blue Proto-Drake from Utguarde Pinnacle. My mount collector – who is at 103 mounts currently – has neither. 😦

My 2nd priest gets it a couple of times – but certainly not as much. I think my hunter only got it when I was grouped with a much better geared friend and we entered lfg. Though my main isn’t too badley geared – maybe I keep getting picked as the experienced player 😦

My tank is fairly geared and when I go with my guild disc priest we almost always get Oc without fail (we are both reasonably well geared.)

Also – DK tank + Drakes = Death Grip for Melee fun!

Never ceases to amaze people when I bail them out by pulling the damn thing onto the platform and whaling on it 😀

I’ve always rather liked Oculus. It’s the idiots that show up there that I don’t like. We’ve had flying mounts in game for years now so why do so many people seem incapable of figuring out how to fly up a ring? It’s been nerfed so much that the only things that cause problems these days are the other party members lagging behind and pulling blue dragons.

Still haven’t got the drake on any of my chars though, grr.

Had a few die on platforms because someone pulled a drake – and most of us had already dismounted

Amusingly enough, I got Oculus on my Mage this morning. For the first time in AGES, I got a group where all 3 DPS actually knew how to use a Bronze Drake. Last boss went down amazingly fast.

At the same time, our healer obviously had no idea what he was doing. He pulled 3 or 4 drakes behind him every time we moved to another platform. Before we had even engaged Eregos he had drained his life to 50% by healing the (not damaged) Red Drake. The healer only survived because 1) our DPS was crazy with three Bronze Drakes using Shock Lance correctly and 2) someone used a Time Stop when the healer was at about 1% life and the boss died before coming out of it.

Oh @ Analogue – I have the blue drake on my Warlock (and I’ve deleted a 2nd one) AND on my Warrior (who I already mentioned also has the Blue Proto). 🙂

Just on a sidenote, I’ve heard that the dragon mounts also scale with your gear level… Which would explain why you are finding it easier as you progress.

Personally, I rather like Occulus when your group knows the fight. The mechanics are fun and it is a nice palette cleanser from all the tank-and-spanks. That said, with an inexperienced group, Occulus can be downright painful.

Their health does – was in a run once where one player rommed all their gear before the last boss, and wondered why he kept dying, It wasn’t untill someone asked ” why is your health so low?” and an ahhh his not wearing any gear ( he didn’t want the repair bills)
