Only one person in a guild can change the tabard – the GM
The importance of a tabard varies between the guild – some guilds enforce it’s wearing – but most don’t care.
Personally I like the idea behind the tabard – you can be recognised by the pattern as you ride past – when you raid together standing with and among your fellow guildies, you are united in purpose and uniform.
Do you really trust your gm to have enough style to pick the right tabard?
The latest press release from Blizzard regarding the changes that are not coming in cataclysm – advise that
- Guild mounts will have a flag attached to them that displays the guild’s emblem.
So that guild tabard you all joke about, the cupcake on your chest, and bright pink background is suddenly going to be waved around a lot more.
There are several things to consider when coming up with a guild tabard
1. Boobs
Some Characters have them, some don’t, and some designs look horrid on boobs – you can’t even tell what it is supposed to be sometimes.
2. Colour – Is your GM colourblind? – Some colours just do not go together.
I personally like strong contrast colours, that don’t hurt the eyes – but its still a matter of taste.
Don’t be afraid of using unconventional colours – as long as it’s not over done
3. Simple and complicated – using the right border which ones look better presented?
If you wanted to make the border a little more complicated – I’d keep the border colour the same as the icon- like the one on the left here – but it still looks cleaner with a solid border.
Black and white pretty much makes anything look good – and skulls and Xbones woot!
4. Matching your Gear.
Zahraah is currently wearing the Green Trophy Tabard of the Illidari just because it comes closest to matching my gear. Checkout Wow Tabards for a great picture of all the tabards. If your guild tabard fails, then you try and see if you can obtain one of them.
My old semi Twink and her color coordinated tabard to match her gear.
In a guild of multiple players you aren’t going to make every one happy with colors or design choices – but it’s worth playing around with the Tabard to get the design a little unique – and meaningful for your guild. Especially since it seems you will be seeing it a lot more.
Skull and bones are always win.
I liked the arena one that came when you played a large amount of games, I wore it for the first 3 months or so after it was introduced to show what an arena nerd I was.
I really dislike the way most tabards look with robes. I usually wear tabards on all my melee characters or tank characters — though I might have to quit if my Paladin has to keep wearing skirts/dresses.
I almost never wear tabards on my mage. My priest though, who is my main, sometimes find a suitable tabard. The Arathor tabard looked alright in my Sunwell gear. Haven’t really found one I liked for ICC but I sometimes wear the Argent Crusade one to free up a bag space.
It _really_ bothers me tabards are “Tucked in” when wearing dresses.
Think upon the skirt your pally has to wear as a kilt….
Kilts are awesome and manly! I agree.
Hmm I’ve been keeping my tabard in the bank and haven’t put it on in probably a year or more. You have awakened a little desire in me now to wear it. I’ll throw it on today and actually I do like it. We have a tree symbol on ours which as a druid is even more appropriate. Not sure it will fit me in tree form though 😛
I didn’t even know what our guild tabard was untill I accidently equiped one in my bags, and went.. oh. . that wasn’t what I expected. I also should wear it more often. Might try and start a tradition where it’s encouraged to be worn during raids or something
As a mage I never wear a tabard, just doesn’t look good on clothies, on my pally though it looks HOT!.
And I think Scryer is the best looking tabard.
The dress thingy like Shiva said does make it look a little odd,
I love the Ebon Blade tabard with the DK tier armor sets.
Just suits it so down to a T. I know its the faction of the DK etc as well… but it still looks awesome.
Shattered Sun is also a favourite of mine.
You know and I know the Green tabard of the Illidari is the best when it comes to promoting certain female night elf assets.
But for my human Paladin main I have been wearing either the Tabard of the Argent dawn/Tabard of the Protector/Tabard of the Argent crusade for much of the last 5 years. Their has never been a set of armor they did not look good with and its hard to beat a port to the tourney.
I have no idea what embellishments your talking about….
Twice now our guild has run a tabard design comp on our website. Prize this time was a primordal saronite that was in the guild bank. It was a bit of fun and something different.
and it gets everyone in the guild involved in the process – which means they feel more attached to it 🙂
I like colors that match, but are very much contrasting. As in black gackgroun with bright trimmings/insignia.
