My Shadow Priest is my main – I haven’t talked about her much and I feel like I have neglected her. It’s a whine. It’s probably unproductive, but I also find that doing a brain purge is good for the brain, and also gives me stuff to think about fixing. She’s a different kind of fun – a more kind of serious – so while it may sound like a whine – I am still very much enjoying playing her.
I need more haste. My dps sucks. H DFO hasn’t dropped for 5 weeks now. I spent a massive chunk of my DKP on getting H Phylactery of the Nameless Lich because I had the Dkp to splash around, and I couldn’t count on HDFO dropping ever again. I always have trinket issues. We have an awesome Shadow Priest in our guild with both the most awesomest trinkets, but no longer raids. Which is probably a good thing for me because that means I’m the only shadow priest but also a bad thing because I have no one else to compete against class v class, and no one to talk to about shadow priesting stuff.
I envy our mages and their mage club.
So besides having to use my Abyssal Rune ( ilevel 200 trinket) in our H LK attempts to get my haste up. Without it I think I’m on 760 as of 2 new pieces I got last week- basically clearing out my DKP cause I needed the haste, between them that was 120 odd haste so I was using low haste for a long time – hoping that DFO would drop. 5 weeks. /sob and its only one trinket. But It’s THE trinket. 170 hastey goodness.
I went looking at other Shadow P’s to see what they are wearing, and of course they all have H DFO. But besides, only 1 of them is using Blackmagic on their weapon, otherwise it’s +63 Sp. All of them have 980 haste upwards, including someones insane 1200 haste, and interestingly enough most of them have +haste chanted on their cloaks and not lightweave embroidery.
So I checked my Blackmagic, and Lightweave procs on our logs, and they are procing enough to be useful. However we are trying more H LK attempts tonight, and I should have time to do some rechanting to lose my blackmagic, and Lightweave to +63 sp and +23 Haste just to test it.
Even though back in the day. The raw numbers showed that Blackmagic was better, and that lightweave was better. So what do they know that I don’t?

I think I’m the only replenishment source half the time in raid, so I’m mindblasting a heap more than I would like. Every time a hunter asks for an innervate I feel guilty like its my fault they are running out of mana. ( ok I think I’ve only heard a hunter ask once)
Again I looked another guilds logs, and the insane priest with 1200 odd haste was top on H Saurfang. He did not Mindblast once, and only a small amount of damage on adds. However there was another Spriest in the raid who mindblasted quite regularily, did a crap less dps – but also did more damage to adds. Maybe he was the mindblasting B*tch to proc replenishement or maybe the top Shadow Priest was being bad by not procing it, and not dpsing the adds.
Sims show there is isnt a major difference between mbing and not mbing on dps, maybe its a lag thing increasing the cast time – maybe its a haste thing – but I do better when I don’t worry about Mbing as much.

Okay, I know probably not going to make you feel better — but I don’t know what will. But I think the thing that burned me was armorying the healing priest from Premonition’s US first HLK kill. Their Disc priest had H DFO. It burns!
But sigh, I feel your pain. The only hope of me upgrading my trinket is to get the 10 man one from Gunship. And I suppose a low probability for the Halion one.
Anyways, I will say this much. Be careful about only comparing a log without a video or without -really- comparing the logs. I am actually honestly surprised the priest who was on the boss fulltime did less dps.
On paper, with VT having our best DPET by far, any opportunity to put up multiple VT’s should increase DPS a lot. This of course relates back to being careful about logs, especially on HLK – tank position and Val’kyr position affect dps a lot.

nah priest on boss did higher dps on boss – but pretty much looked like only dotted up some of the adds, and didn’t single target them at all. Whereas the other priest not only Mblasted he also killed the adds, but was way down the dps metres.
its possible that the insane 1200 haste priest is raiding with one or more ret pally, in which case they don’t have to provide replenishment. but its also possible that they are just trying to flex their e-peen and boost their damage any way possible.
I think you should try that. be selfish. do what you need to to boost your dps and let others deal with things that need to be done. that is if you’re getting flack for low dps of course.
I was in VoA the other day, there were 3 locks. granted I’m not the most amazing lock in the world, but I was seriously far behind one of them, which made me kinda sad as he was also demo…that is until I saw that he didn’t switch to orbs. had like .5% damage done to them and I think it was mostly from felguard cleaves when orbs were moving through melee.
so I figured, as long as i don’t get flack for lower damage (that’s basically due to me doing what I’m supposed to) I’ll continue to do what I’m supposed to but the moment someone says anything at all? its off to being selfish, even if it risks wiping the raid just to prove my point (and lest see if they figure out why is it that things go less smoothly).
hmmmm attitudes of some people in WoW has really been pissing me off lately O_O.
Can’t do that 🙂 I like my healers having mana as well – and if they go Oom then we die ect ect. But yeah my frustrations have stemmed more from a question ” Why is your dps so low all the time” but by being selfish isnt going to help progression/raid and may not even give me a big enough boost to make a real difference
I must be really behind the curve but last i read wasn’t using MB ment to be a dps increase? In saying this i rarely use my shadow set due to normally running disc/holy specs when possible.
not with the 4 set t10 bonus – but its supposedly only a small difference, yet the priests I’ve seen logs for and do well at least in comparision to the rest of their raid for this level of content and on oceanic don’t seem to be using MB that often. – I’ve also yet to see a Shadow Priest at that level of raiding without the 4 set bonus. Was hoping that with the other gear available it would get to the point where it would start replacing the 4 set bonus like I think it was tier 8 4 set that was easily replaced? but alas.

LOL at the hunter calling for an inervate! I’d probably inervate a rogue before I’d inervate a hunter- they have so many ways of getting mana back. (and if they whine it’s a dps loss tell them to qq moar!)Of corse the hunter was probably joking about the inervate (at least I hope he was… /facepalm)
Yeah trinkets are tough to come by- so limited in supply and so much demand. I wouldn’t mind DFO for my druid 8D but I’d let a mage/priest/lock take it first.
As far as the super hasted Spriest not dpsing adds for H Saurfang….I would want him helping with adds too but that probably depends on the raid make-up. I mean maybe the RL told him to stay on boss to dps- but most RL do that so the Spriest is a mana battery. Who knows?
I’d say keep doing your job- if you are on adds kill the adds. Any RL worth anything will know your dps will drop from target switching. True for most classes.
Well, Haste really has nothing to do with Replenishment. Even with 1100 or so Haste, I use Mind Blast every other cooldown to provide replenishment. I need it too!
On the subject of trinkets, my luck is variable. I have DFO and the Phylactery, but neither on Heroic level. If it drops, it is more likely to go to some other caster who has 300 DKP to spend more than me anyway ^_^
But then, this comes from the Shadowpriest still lurking with Bejeweled Wizard’s Bracers…
and the more haste you have the more you cast and the more mana you use. If there was another source – different story
I’m rocking the Scale and the normal DFO and sitting pretty at 1200 haste. I’m lucky enough to raid with a survival hunter, 2 retadins, and a lock who’s destro for the LK fight. That helps a lot.
I think the DPS increase from MFing rather than MBing has a lot to do with the complication watching an extra cooldown brings. Given my raid make-up, I also speced out of Improved Mind Blast in favor of a few talents that allow for indirect DPS gains.
I passed PotNL to our Affliction lock the other night. My trinkets are decent. On the other hand, I didn’t select them for the haste, I seleceted them for the dps gain. I rocked Reign of the Dead for a long time before getting the heroic spyglass. I wouldn’t go back to the Abyssal Ruin if you have something like that kicking around in a bank.
I replaced normal Reign with the Potnl, and played with the Abysal because otherwise I would have 2 Crit trinkets if I kept Heroic Spyglass – Noticed better single target Dps ( dummy) with the haste set up and we didn’t do enough attempts on Heroic LK to give it a decent test, but might keep the set up for this raiding week and see how I go in comparision,
Do you do a lot of Sims? I love dummies for figuring out rotations and timing, but they tend to lie when it comes to DPS calcs.
no, I tried Roar not to long ago, and it told me to replace all my haste gems with crit. I use dummies – at least for the consistant target for casting, and to see if I’m clipping,
Well I might only just now be up to H Sindragosa but *I* don’t have any Heroic trinkets either.
I also don’t have any Heroic Tier. And about half my off-tier items are Heroic.
I prefer +63sp over Black Magic. I don’t like +Haste procs personally and prefer to have a static Haste amount as much as possible. I’m still using Lightweave embroidery. Although I hadn’t researched changing it.
I tend to do more DPS when I don’t have to worry about casting Mind Blast the moment it comes off cooldown. I don’t think MB is a DPS loss, but I do think it messes with our brains a bit and you end up with a gappy rotation when you’re trying to prioritise it.
Fortunately we have a surplus of Replenishment so I don’t need to worry too much about Mind Blast. But I still cast it, mostly out of habit.
As for having such low DPS on the beasts… perhaps he was VTing all of them for some extra +dmg and then switching right back to the boss? I wouldn’t take it too much to heart.
I am just starting to get geared for lk let alone hlk. As usual no one wants a shadowpriest who’s gs is less then 5k. Even though they increased the buff in lk since RS was released.
I noticed that I out damage alot of toons with gs 600 above my gs. I just don’t get it. I do use mb as soon as it refreshes and with my toon it does keep me up there on the damage meters. Plus I never run out of mana and replenish others mana considerably. But I am still such a newb. Of course being in a guild who only does pug raids makes my growth as far as gear a sad and lonely journey,
