I was in AV the other weekend and some guys Mod was spamming BG chat with People being away messages.
It reported the Players name and server as well their location ( the cave) and how much healing and damage they had done.
I tracked down the mod at Wow interface, and it’s called Herostatus
and I like it.
It has some rules to it, and it seems pretty accurate, doesn’t pick up everyone, it depends on the type of afkers.
“At the moment reporting only occurs when players are not moving for 1 minute consecutively and have less then 35k healing and damage. If they have more then that, I assume they are not a bot, and therefor will not report them. Optional to turn on silent reporting in case you didn’t want to get into a flame war with some guy trying to leech your honor”
It does other stuff like track your honor kills, and killing blows, but the best part is the Afk detection and reporting.
Not one person complained about the Spam in the Bg I saw it in. It very efficiently got rid of any afkerer in AV
when 8/40 people get kicked out a Bg for Afking.
It just shows you how many people are afking in Bgs, Come on.. this is not fair.
I look some of the afkers up on armory, and most of them are in bad arena teams. Most of them buying pvp gear, and most of them are doing Pve, heroics, and even raiding.
So why is ok for them to afk in a bg?
So I got the mod and tested it out tonite
I got called a Dick. I wonder if I even got reported for spamming.
But very soon, a very satisfying stream of yellow text, and those afkers leaving the BG followed,
and I was like That is why its awesome!
There is an option to silent report which I may implement when I start peeing people off too much.
You of course can do it manually. Ages ago I wrote how to tell if someone is afking. How to tell hasn’t changed much. It can take a while to work out of someone is afk, we are supposed to be concentrating on our game first. The mod tracks stuff you don’t, or even forget to.
When doing it manually I used to confirm location before I report.
I also has mindvision. I can find you. Always.
I don’t think I have ever made a bad call. There have been a couple of times where I have had to go, oh crap, did I call a non afker or flag gaurder a Ahole – but further checking revealed I was correct.
However when 20% of people in a Bg afk. When does it become so unfair, and unplayable – when half the bg is afk? the numbers have been climbing.
So for now I’m ok being the dick that spams BG chat with afk reports.
Maybe I will make more people go looking for this mod, and more people report, and it be less profitable for afkers to afk because they will get kicked.
However, It feel it got very spammy, and I tried to turn it off in the BG, and it didnt work. I ended up turning it back on and putting it on silent mode.
So yeah if I get a banned for spam, or something I’m Sorry! But I had no idea there would be so many Afk people in one bg.
While I am for the most part a casual gamer, afkers and bots annoy the crap out of me. I like what you found! Guess I’ll join the ranks of being a dick too!
Downloaded it. Ended up spamming my guild with boatloads of stats..the setting ui could use some work heh.
Thanks for the tip! I am totally going to try this when I get home. 🙂
Wouldn’t it be great if Blizzard decided that this is one of the AddOns they’d like to have in the game as a standard thing? As they did with QuestHelper, PowerAuras, etc.
Unfortunately, it probably also means there’ll be a bit of an arms race. People leeching honor will just do a bit of healing or damage, and move around a bit – perhaps even with a bot; just the minimum required to avoid detection, but not actually playing the game properly, and thus still being a drag on the team they’re in.
Rated battlegrounds are the only sensible way forward; I just wish they weren’t so buggy. –Kay
It amuses me how people try to do the lifeless brainless thing when the game is already so easy to level.
It does concern me a little that this may stop me from using shadowmeld to guard objectives – I can easily clock up more than a minute of standing still watching a target on approach and waiting to snipe them down.
@Chouette, I believe this addon takes two parameters to do the AFK reporting. One, you have to have done under 35K damage or healing. Two, you also have to stand still for longer than a minute. @85 if you go and attack one person you will be over 35k then it sounds like you will no longer be flagged.
This addon has potential, but could easily report people that are actually playing.. think EOTS .. you claim DR.. and actually guard it.. you won’t have any kills or damage if nobody comes to attack you… and if you are a stealth class you may be still and motionless for over a min.. … afk? .. no, Just guarding a base ready for a sneak attack on any would be aggressors.
I have now been reported out of too many BGs while guarding nodes of importance to use mods like these.
I did use one a while back.. I actually reported a mate out of a BG.. felt bad as I was the one that asked them to guard a node.
It’s a hard call and still has its issues.
I have been getting a lot of WSG bots, that constantly spam heals on themselves (beating the other requirement). I had 2 or 3 in a row where 3 bots stood on top of each other in the flag room the whole game.
I knew, because that was where I positioned myself as goalie… they were in combat often enough and healing often enough to avoid both addon and manual report.
Still, I wont use an autoreporter again, too easy to punish those actually doing the right thing.
I think the worst I had was 10 bots in SotA, that was in the 80-85 range… slack.
I’ll confess to having it turned off- it got crazy on av to the point if embarrassment . Every wave of afkers kicked out just bought more afkers in. Maybe if it turned into an alert- eg suspect that someone is afk based on the same criteria but you still need to manually assess and manually report. Except for the crazy av I am certain ive not reported anyone in error. Besides the only stealth that requires you to be still is shadow meld, and I would get bored standing still stealthed on my Druid. Have noticed an decrease in afkers the last 2 weeks though
Old post is old, but I found it while googling for this very thing. Thankfully, I play Horde, so shadowmeld isn’t an issue on my team. 😀
Started using this today, haven’t had the chance to make sure it was actually reporting (4.3 — I took a version off curse instead of the linked one) but it hasn’t caused any trouble. The curse version comes with options to turn off guild report and it seems to come silenced by default.
